This
install is not the easiest, plan on spending a good hour to
get the antenna mounted and wired.
First take
the mast off the antenna base then remove the chrome nut (you
can use pliers)
|
 |
 |
Turn
on the windshield wipers and when they are straight up turn the
key off so they will stay that way. Remove the cowl panel by removing
the two torx screws and then unlatching the slider in the middle. |
 |
 |
Remove
the fender mounting bolts from the edge of where the hood goes;
don't forget the one that was hidden by the cowl panel. |
 |
 |
Remove
the screws that hold the front of the side skirt (ground effect)
from the lower wheel well opening, then get the inner fender liner
released from the wheel well opening. Do not remove it, just make
it so you can fit your hand in the back to pull the foam out of
the way. |
 |
 |
With
the foam out of the way you will be able to see one more bolt
holding the fender in place from the back, remove this, now you
will be able to move the fender about 4 inches at the top without
damaging anything. |
 |
 |
To
get the rest of the antenna out you will need to remove the passenger
side kick panel, unplug the antenna plug and push it through the
hole where the front of the door opens. You can remove the upper
portion of the antenna by pushing it down, pulling the top of
the fender past it and then pulling the antenna base up and out. |
 |
 |
Remove
the rubber grommet from the antenna cable and save it for later.
Take the new antenna cable that comes in the kit and fish the
thin wire with the connector from the inside of the car to the
outside. |
 |
 |
Then
put the antenna connector through. take the rubber grommet from
OEM cable and put a 3/4 inch slit in one side and flip it inside
out. |
 |
 |
Put
the grommet on the new cable inside out. Make sure it is facing
away from the hole where the cable comes through the door jamb.
You will then flip it right side out, it should then face toward
the hole. |
 |
 |
Place
some electrical tape over the slit and place the grommet in the
hole. Finish fishing the cable up through the aria where the factory
cable went. |
 |
 |
Mount
the antenna in the fender hole and attach the mounting nut (22mm).
Tighten the nut by hand first, rotate the base so the base stands
slightly toward the pass side of the vehicle. Do not over tighten
the nut, it only needs to be tight enough for the antenna to be
securely attached. |
 |
 |
Connect
the antenna cable to the antenna and tape the whole junction so
as to prevent water from entering the connections. |
 |
 |
Bolt
everything back together, even the bolt that goes in the fender.
While you are there, don't forget to put the foam block (that
went in the fender in front of the door) back in place. Also make
sure the bolts and washers line back up with the paint makes on
the fender. |
| |
All
that is left is to pull your radio and connecting the antenna
cable to the radio, then connect the thin wire (the power for
the antenna amp) to the "key on power" at the back of
the radio. (if you have an aftermarket radio it will be the blue
remote wire) |
